The Student Activities Committee at the College of Applied Medical Sciences in Al-Qurayyat organized the student section today, Monday 10/4/1443 AH corresponding to 15/11/2021 AD, the International Diabetes Awareness Day event. Clinical laboratories and supervisor of the Nursing Department, and His Excellency Dr. Jaber Sayed Amin, assistant professor in the Department of Physiotherapy and Health Rehabilitation, and supervisor of the Academic and Student Advising Unit at the college. Dr. Jaber Sayed Amin started the lecture with a full explanation of diabetes, defining the disease and explaining the most common symptoms and signs such as frequent urination, thirst and weight loss. He also explained the types of diabetes such as type 1 or what is known as youth diabetes, explaining that it depends on insulin for its treatment, while the second type It is adult sugar, which depends in its treatment on exercise, diet control and taking sugar-regulating tablets, as well as explaining the complications caused by diabetes such as problems in the eyes and peripheral nerves, especially diabetic foot and kidney problems.
In the second part of the lecture, His Excellency Dr. El-Yasa Mustafa Al-Faki explained how to diagnose diabetes, listing the types of tests that are required to diagnose the disease, such as random blood sugar, fasting blood sugar, and blood sugar two hours after eating Meal (post prandial) and Hb1c cumulative blood sugar assay. He explained the need to pay attention to checking sugar in a regular manner, especially for diabetic patients, which facilitates the control and regulation of blood sugar levels. It is worth mentioning that student activities accompanying the celebration of the World Diabetes Awareness Day included several activities in which students from the scientific departments (students from the Physical Therapy Department, the Nursing Department, and the Clinical Laboratory Sciences Department participated). ), where the students demonstrated clinical and cognitive skills in conducting examinations, measuring blood pressure, measuring height and weight, calculating body mass, and making health awareness for all attendees.
