College of Applied Medical Sciences in Al-qurayyat

Clinical laboratory sciences Department

Introduction

The clinical laboratory science program offers a four-year theoretical and practical study in the classroom system (eight levels) followed by one year internship program in health services after which the student award a bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory sciences to practice the profession as a laboratory specialist.

  1. Clinical Laboratory Science Program

The clinical laboratory science program is one of the most important medical specialties in the medical system. The student in this specialty performs laboratory diagnosis according to the latest laboratory techniques. It is one of the diagnostic methods contributing to clinical diagnosis and contributing to the treatment and prevention of diseases.

  1. Clinical laboratory sciences include several different disciplines, which are divided into four main tracks:

A- Medical Microbiology: -

It deals with the study of pathogenic microorganisms, where the student is acquainted with the methods of isolation and identification of these pathogenic microbes and methods of diagnosis, treatment and prevention

B- Clinical Biochemistry:

It is concerned with studying the chemical changes that occur in the human body as a result of diseases by measuring the concentration of different chemicals using the latest methods of measurement and analysis.

C- Hematology and blood transfusion

Hematology is concerned with studying the pathological changes that affect the red and white blood cells and platelets such as anemia and leukemia. Blood transfusion is also concerned with the safe ways of transferring blood and its components from blood donors to those in need.

D- Histology and pathology.

It studies the cells and tissues and the changes that occur in these cells and tissues in case of disease

  1. Qualified graduate of the Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences

The graduate department is qualified to obtain a bachelor's degree in the field of Clinical Laboratory Sciences so he can:

A- Contribute to the choice of appropriate methods of analysis in parallel with the development of the disease.

B- Collecting different samples (blood, body fluids, etc.) and determining the criteria for acceptance or rejection in the laboratory.

C- Familiarity with the theories and principles of analytical methods in different sections of clinical laboratories.

D- Operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and solving operational problems - when they occur - and keeping documents on all of this

E- Continuous updating of diagnostic expertise by developing and evaluating the credibility of new analytical methods.

4- Work opportunities graduate of the Department of Clinical Laboratories

A- Most graduates do not have difficulty in filling the positions of a "medical laboratory specialist" in hospitals and government and private clinical laboratories.

B- There is also a valuable opportunity to work in the fields of biotechnology, medical research centers, medical products development areas (solutions - medical devices, medical information analysis centers, and various public health fields.

C- There are also opportunities for graduates to complete their graduate studies to obtain the master's and doctoral degrees and work in the field of research or join the academic corps in various institutions of higher education.
